AMY AND RYAN'S 2nd TOUR
***** EPILOGUE ***** JUNE 2003 DAY 5 | PACKING
EPILOGUE

SAN FRANCISCO (Amy) -- Ryan and I were both EXTREMELY happy to be home.

I toyed with various plans to take another vacation that might actually be fun and relaxing, but ultimately I just took a couple days off and then went back to work. I was kind of scattered and purposeless for a week or maybe even more though. I am still a little bitter that my one long vacation of the year was a complete disaster.

Ryan, however, was very purposeful in his refusal to go back to work. He did what he loves the most, spending quality time by himself. He rarely left his apartment. A few days after returning we resumed communication. I would call late in the day and ask him if he was still unshowered and wearing only his underwear and he would just laugh. It scares me that I know him so well.

I do not know at this point whether we will attempt another long trip next year. Ryan says that if we do go on another trip, it will need to be confined to the Central Valley.

RYAN'S CORNER

So the next morning, I called the U-Haul people to make sure they got our truck and didn't charge us for our extra 300 miles (like they said they wouldn't). But the lady on the phone said there was no night drop where we had left the truck and she couldn't find my truck in the system. Uh-oh. So I raced down there and noticed a sign on the window that said, "There is no night drop here. If you leave your keys, we will charge you $100." Uh-oh. I was freakin'. But it was very busy (everyone is leaving San Francisco, I guess) and I had to wait nervously in line for an hour. I finally pleaded my case, that some lady on the phone said they wouldn't charge us those extra miles because of the detour. The guy had never heard of that policy and had to call his superior. Luckily, the boss told him "your call" and we didn't get charged the extra miles and they never mentioned the $100.
